Faith in sessions
Faith is yours to bring or leave
Here is what it can look like, and what I do and do not do with it.
If you want it in the room
A short prayer at the start or end, a question about doubt, a passage you bring yourself. You lead and I follow.
If you want it left out
Then it stays out. You do not have to explain why, and nothing about it changes how I work with you.
If you are not sure
That is a fine place to start. I will ask what you would like faith to do in the room, if anything, and you can answer later.
What I will not do
I will not quote scripture as a promise, tell you what to believe or tell you what your faith requires. The page on what I do not do says more.
Your own community
Counseling is not a substitute for your pastor, priest or congregation. I can name spiritual directors and pastors if you want one.
Changing your mind
You can ask for more or less at any session, and I will not take it personally.
Three questions about this service
Are you a pastor?
No. I am a licensed professional counselor. I am not clergy and I do not offer pastoral care.
Do you pray with clients?
Only if you ask. Many clients never do.
What if I have lost my faith?
You are welcome. Doubt and loss are part of what people bring, and I will not try to argue you back.
