Colorado Springs, Colorado
Faith is optional. Being listened to is not.
Spirit Counseling is a solo practice for adults and couples who want faith to be an option in counseling, never a requirement. I follow your lead on whether it comes up at all.

Who it is for
Who this practice is for, and who it is not
Better to know from the start, so you do not lose time or money.
Other help
Faith
Spiritual direction or pastoral care: a pastor or director, and I can name some.
Who comes
Children and teenagers: I give you names of colleagues.
What I do
Prescriptions or medication: a physician or psychiatrist handles those.
When
A crisis: call 988 or 911. This is not an emergency service.
Spirit Counseling

Individual counseling
For one adult. 50-minute sessions, with faith in the room only if you want it.

Couples counseling
For two. 80-minute sessions, so both of you have time to speak.

Faith in sessions
What it looks like when faith is part of the work, and when it is not.

Your counselor
Eunice Goode, licensed professional counselor
I sit with adults and couples who want an unhurried hour and a counselor who will not preach at them.
In the first session I explain how I work and the limits of confidentiality, and I ask what you would like faith to do in the room, if anything. My Colorado license is listed at the foot of every page.

How it works
One conversation at a time, without hurry
There is no script here. I explain how I work and why, and you decide whether it suits you.
You decide how faith comes in
A prayer, a passage, a question about doubt, or none of it. You can change your mind in any session.
You set the pace with me
I do not promise a number of sessions. We talk about what you want, when you want.
Your information is kept private
I keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.

Often on the table
- Questions about faith
- Grief and loss
- Strain in a marriage
- Life transitions
- Caring for others until you run dry
- Doubt and change
- A new town
- Family expectations
How fees work
Insurance we work with
Spirit Counseling is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself. I do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If you want someone who bills your plan, I will gladly give you the names of colleagues.
Out of network with insurance plans
No Medicare or Medicaid
If you pay yourself
You pay at the end of each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards. I give you the fee in writing before we start. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are held; ask how to request one. I ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment.
Receipts for reimbursement
Each month I give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything; ask it before you start.
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. I give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
Your rights, at cms.gov/nosurprisesChecking your benefits
I do not check benefits, because I do not bill your plan. If you want to know whether your plan reimburses, call it before the first session and ask about out-of-network mental health services.
What the first visit includes
The first session lasts 60 minutes. I explain how I work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of counseling, and I listen. You pay for it at the same rate as any other session, as stated in your written estimate.
Questions
What nearly everyone asks
Do you take my insurance?
No. Spirit Counseling is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself. I give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses part of it. I do not take Medicare or Medicaid, and I will gladly name colleagues who do.
What is the receipt I can send my plan?
It is called a superbill, and your plan may reimburse part of out-of-network care when you send it, though your plan decides whether it pays anything. I give you one each month, with the dates and kind of session. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. I give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
How do fees work?
You pay at the end of each session by card. I give your fee in writing before we start, and the fees page explains the receipt, the estimate and the cancellation notice.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. Most health savings and flexible spending cards work for counseling. Check with your plan administrator if you are unsure.
What happens in the first session?
It lasts 60 minutes. I explain how I work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of counseling, and I listen. At the end we each decide whether to continue.
Start with a short call, if you like
A 15-minute call is a way to see whether we fit. It is not therapy, an evaluation or an assessment.
Write to me
Tell me how you would like to start
I reply within one business day, by the method and at the time you choose. A 15-minute call about fit is one way to begin; it is not therapy, an evaluation or an assessment.
